Analog and digital are words we often hear, but many of us don’t know the true difference between the two. Digital things can only be interpreted in a certain way (like 0’s and 1’s) and analog things are infinite and can be interpreted ambiguously. Some examples of digital communication are texting, calling, and emailing because they are all done through a digital device. Some examples of analog communication include smoke signals, because they can be interpreted in any way; carrier pigeons, because the number of paths they can take is infinite; and fashion, because you can wear any possible combination of items. One form of communication that can be analog or digital depending on how it is interpreted is spoken language. The alphabet and words are digital, because there are a limited number of letters and words, but the way someone pronounces their speech can be done in an infinite number of ways.
